OK this is my first encounter with the Enfield rifle. This was something that was going on at a "living history" at Reed's Bridge Battlefield, Jacksonville, Arkansas, this morning. They didn't have a battle reenactment this time, although there were several Union and Confederate reenactors there. I observed that many of them carried an Enfield rifle. While there are some flintlock variants available, after 1842 most of them were percussion, including the one that you are about to see in the video, which is owned by the "Yankee" that you'll see in the video. Yes I discovered the taste of gunpowder...LOL...the gun was a bit heavy for me so the reenactor helped me hold it. To use the Yankee's words, "put the gun powder in the barrel, bring the hammer back one click, put the ammo on it, raise it up, bring it back two more clicks as you're raising it, yell "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" and then fire." BTW I actually filmed the guy in front of me shooting it. He didn't know how to work my phone so I thought, "OK just get him doing it and go with that." We were not using live rounds. It had a slight recoil to it but I don't think it was that bad considering. It might have been different if we were using live ammo. Enjoy! 1017151322.3gp (506.24 KB)
